I wish I had read it many years ago. But I have to wince at the terrible job Echo Library did in printing it.It's full of obvious missing spaces so that words run together, likethesewords.This happens on almost every page. The author, Walter Bagehot, includes some actual balance sheets from the Bank of England as examplesI venture to call this essay 'Lombard Street' and not the 'Money Market,' or any such phrase, because I wish to deal, and to show that I mean to deal, with concrete realities in my explanation of how money moves and flows around cities. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
